Often we get stuck in the same routine with our social media accounts.  Having a method for delivering content is only one piece of the puzzle.  We need to engage with our audience in order to see growth.

Here are a few tips on how to improve your engagement on social media.

1. What is your audience going to gain by following you?

What does your content look like?  Does it serve a purpose?  Clearly define your goal for your online marketing strategy and what best suits your brand.  This way your social media content will make sense and will resonate with your audience.

An example of this is, May and James Company’s content strategy goal is to educate and bring value.

This means that our engagement strategy will be to share resources, answer questions and give advice.

How will this benefit our business?  We hope that by sharing tips and tricks of productivity and social media platforms our audience will have a better understanding of how this will bring value to their own business and that outsourcing could be beneficial.

2. What does your audience want to hear?

This will allow you to know how frequently you should be posting and what the content should look like.

If you are wondering why your engagement is low, your content could be wrong.  Take the guesswork out of this.  Get to know your audience and what their biggest pain points are.

3. What does your content look like?

Keep your messages simple and to the point.

You can get into more detail on other platforms, but keep your information valuable, authentic and clear.

What do your images look like?  Consider hiring a brand photographer to get some quality images.

4. Be timely and relevant to your content.

What are some trending topics, hashtags, or holidays?  A good way to gain audience engagement is to be on top of what is currently happening in our world.

An example of this is using Covid-19 hashtags and developing content around what your business or brand is doing to adapt to this current situation.

5. Are you interacting with your audience?

Do you have a plan in place to respond to comments on your social media platforms?  You should consider how these will be handled in a timely manner, who is answering and in what way.

Why does all of this matter?

The goal at the end of the day is to build a relationship with your audience, potential clients & customers.  Be present, be approachable, be who your brand stands for and who your audience can rely on.  The increased engagement will follow.
